Customs and Compliance

Otimo Customs Compliance and Trade (OCTC) is a core business unit of The OC as it represents a pillar of our strength and commitment we make to our clients.  Informed compliance is our focus at The OC as we believe that compliance is not an option, but rather it is a requirement that is mandated by Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).  Importers should take a proactive approach to assessing their risk and exposure for their importations to avoid penalties, seizures, forfeitures or even recalls of their items.   Understanding your products and all associated import requirements is essential for your organizations’ compliance protocols but also in mitigating your exposure under the Reason to Believe legislation.   The requirement of CBSA and all Participating Government Agencies (PGA) is that imports are done correctly at time of import.  It is the responsibility of the importer to ensure that all goods have been declared correctly. The OCTC team work directly with our clients, vendors and carriers to ensure that Reason to Believe requirements are met through informed compliance.  The diverse experience that our team offers for tariff classification, Customs Rulings, drawbacks, audit support, valuation, SIMA reviews and investigations, AD and CVD duty assessment, Non Resident Importer (NRI) set up, or Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR) compliance and registration or ARL training and reconciliation are only a few of the services the OCTC team provides.
